Identifying red flags in business…

The old saying, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”  This phrase has been repeated over and over again yet people seem to not identify the red flags when conducting business.  Although the phrase gives an overall perspective there are specific ways to ensure you can spot red flags that give you a good hunch not to get involved.

Personally, I do not get involved in a business unless I am either filing for the business license, or investing in a well known franchise, or an established business.  Today the schemes appear to come in the form of a pyramid.  If a business requires you to bring in people underneath you prior to any pay out, this is a pyramid scheme; even if the business requires a small start fee and holds the promise to a comprehensive website.

When you are able to identify the red flags prior to conducting business you are sure NOT to fall victim to these schemes.  As the economy transitions with the market, schemes come in different forms.  Ensure you stay on top of the trends by communicating with others in groups, read articles which identify red flags, and listen.  Listening to your inner thoughts is key because the old expression is true, “If it quacks like a duck, it is a duck.”  A quick Google search placing the company name with the word scam or scheme won’t hurt either.

I do not want to name corporations which are giving people false hope because not enough research has been conducted on my behalf yet if you stay away from the key areas identified above, you are sure to stay out of harm’s way.  Regardless of the new economic picture we face, business can and will continue to strive.  I just ask that you ensure you look into the mechanics of the organization requesting a business prospective or balance sheet prior to investing.  If you don’t know how to read those statements, then you need to reach out to someone who understands to ensure your investments will be promising and not a scam.  I will write more on this topic with specific details once I conduct more research so ensure you stay tuned.
